Blairgowrie Perthshire & Rattray Information

Blairgowrie Perthshire (Gael. blar-ghobhar,`plain of the wild goats'), and Rattray, together with neighbouring villages provide an excellent base for touring Perthshire Scottish Highlands. The separate towns were joined in 1928 by an Act of Parliment, are located in the Strathmore Valley and lie on opposite sides of the River Ericht. The main town is on the west bank and Rattray is on the east. The name Rattray - meaning "The Fort of the Hunter" refers to an ancient fort to the east of the village. Historians believe that Rattray is much older than Blairgowrie with Old Rattray Kirk being established in 1170. Rattray sits in beautiful countryside between the town and Alyth which is of interest in terms of its walks, church, old bridge and a small but interesting museum Check out the following - click on the link.
