Perth 800

Perth 800 is a year long programme of events which will celebrate the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Burgh Charter to Perth by King William the Lion of Scotland in 1210.

This is an important and historic anniversary for people here and throughout Scotland. Also we want to welcome visitors from home and overseas, especially our twin towns and other Perths around the world, to come and celebrate it with us.

Over the next year, there will be well over 100 events ‘badged’ as part of the celebrations line-up. Many of these are new events and many more are existing events that have been enhanced.

Look at the exciting and ambitious programme on the themes of heritage, sport, arts and culture and the local economy will see more than one event a week being held throughout Perthshire Scottish Highlands during 2010.  These will be aimed at engaging with local communities, encouraging civic pride, stimulating the local economy through tourism, enhancing the national and international profile of Perthshire Scottish Highlands and creating a foundation for Perth to bid for formal city status.

This is an important and historic anniversary for people here and throughout Scotland and we want to welcome visitors from home and overseas, especially our twin towns and other Perths around the world, to come and celebrate it with us.
